•India offered condolences to the teacher’s family and the people of France. The Union External Affairs Ministry stated that there is no justification for terrorism under any circumstance.
SBI raises USD 1 billion untied loan
•The State Bank of India has signed a loan agreement worth USD 1 billion with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation(JBIC) and other lenders.
•Under the agreement, USD 600 million will be financed by JBIC, while the remaining amount will be financed by other participating banks including SMBC, MUFG Bank, Mizuho Bank, Shizuoka Bank and Bank of Yokahama.
•The loan amount will enable smooth flow of funds for the business operations of Japanese automobile manufacturers in India. The loan is expected to help in achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of making India Atmanirbhar.
India procures 11,000 cold weather clothing systems from US army
•India has acquired 11,000 sets of extended cold weather clothing system (ECWCS) from the United States for its soldiers deployed to forward areas along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh.
•The cold gear sets reportedly arrived late last month after India made an urgent request to the US Army for assistance under a bilateral pact.
•The sets have been given to soldiers deployed to forward areas along LAC in Ladakh who are likely to stay on through the winter as tensions with China continue.
•This is the first time the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (Lemoa), which was signed in 2016, has been used in an operational context.
•The agreement gives the two nations access to each other’s military and civil facilities for repairs, supplies and refuelling. It has earlier been used during wargames and occasional refuelling of ships and aircraft.
West Bengal Deputy Speaker Sukumar Hansda passes away
•West Bengal Assembly Deputy Speaker Sukumar Hansda passed in a private hospital in Kolkata on October 29, 2020. He was 63. He was battling cancer.
•Hansda was a two-time MLA from Jhargram and former Paschimanchal Unnayan minister. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and was undergoing treatment for the same since the past few months.
•He was previously admitted to a state-run SSKM Hospital in the city and was later shifted to the private hospital a few days back. This was informed by West Bengal Assembly speaker Biman Banerjee.
Telangana CM launches ‘Dharani’ Portal
•Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao launched the Dharani Portal on October 29, 2020 for land and property registrations. The portal aims to reduce loopholes in the registration process.
•The slot bookings on the website for the land registrations will open today itself and the land and property registrations will start from November 2.
•The website was launched with all the details of the properties of the citizens. The property details that are not uploaded on the portal will be treated as illegal.
•The portal has been launched as a part of the recent revenue reforms undertaken up by the state government.
